Glastonbury Calling 2016 Running Times & Blog

Glastonbury Calling is a new one day festival on Saturday 27th February run by the people and venues from the town. We want to highlight the variety of great new music from the west and show off the cracking venues in the town and show that the town is always full of great music. We love the early part of the year as there is so much music coming out and we intend to get a jump on the summer festivals and show it off.
Spread over 4 venues The Riflemans, The Hawthorns, The King Arthur and The Bocabar £10 will buy you a wristband to cover all of the venues and music which is great value. Tickets are on sale from Bristol Ticket Shop, Jaywalk Guitars and the venues. Any profits will go to Glastonbury FM.

2145-2230 Foreign Affairs
Started by brothers Adam and Lawrence in 2012 Foreign Affairs are a Folk-Rock duo from Bristol. Their catchy music infuses the best of English Folk with American Country. The raw and passionate vocal of younger brother Lawrence turns heads instantly but it is the carefully crafted songs and energetic performance that keeps them facing that way.

Funke and the Two Tone Baby is a one man sonic explosion. Uncategorized and uncharted. Jammed halfway between frenzied alt-blues and metronomic dance beats. Combining guitar and harmonica with beatboxing and effects that seamlessly collide the organic with the mechanical to create a fresh sound of unstoppable rhythm and unrelenting melody.


1930-2000 Chloe Warren
Chloë Warren + Her Band perform alternative-pop music with a unique feel, as recognised by BBC Introducing in the West and many other venues, festivals and radio stations all over the UK. Emotive lyrics and catchy riffs, make this Somerset based band stand out on the local music scene and combine to create enchanting songs that anyone can relate to. At the age of 22 Chloë has already performed headline slots at all of Bristol’s top venues as well as playing support at the O2 Academy, she has also shared the bill with huge acts including Primal Scream, Reef and UB40 at some of the UK’s best festivals. With the release of their brand new EP ‘White Noise’ it boasts a fresh sound and a new look for Chloë and her band turning the page onto a new and even more exciting chapter in their musical journey.

Square One are an exciting, energetic Bro Country band with songs packed full of foot stomping riffs. They are bound to get any party moving.

King Arthur

2215-2300 Bite the Buffalo
Bite the Buffalo Cradle rocked in the mining towns of The Copperbelt in Central Africa, the brothers jet set to the UK to share their sonic ramblings.
Releasing the Bromigos EP in 2012 led to touring the UK / Europe and through to The United States. Following up a successful year with their stomping debut album 'Blue Lips' created in a lighthouse off the coast of Dorset took the guys to SXSW festival in Texas and back for a storming set on the BBC Introducing Stage at Glastonbury Festival which got the attention of Led Zeppelin's Robert Plant who invited the brothers to join him at a sold out Manchester Apollo.
With a NEW ALBUM coming soon all guns are blazing for a big 2016.

UK:ID are a five-piece drum & bass collective with infectious tunes and lyrics that bite back! They have enjoyed excellent reviews on some of the industry’s most notable music blogs, including FlavourMag, Louder Than War and GigSlutz, while their acclaimed debut album ‘Freedom Of Speech’ and follow-up EP ‘Symbols’ have been massively supported by BBC Introducing.
Having played well in excess of 100 shows up and down the country, they have an extensive social media following, and their breakthrough video 'Something Or Nothing' won an exclusive promotion on Vevo. When they’re not in studio recording, you’ll find UK:ID blazing it, out on the road, touring.

Idles are often a five piece POST-PUNK band from BristolLondonNewportBelfast just south of Scotland. They're really really really really really really good. Some say they re-invented being good live as well. Two of them are fat. With a punk ethic that transfers itself into their incendiary live shows, word is traveling fast about Idles.

With a distinct Blues Rock sound Stone Cold Fiction grace every stage with a performance packed full of sweaty, beer stained energy. Recent shows have seen non stop crowd surfing, moshing and head banging.


1715-1800 Finches Fly
Finches Fly are an energetic young alternative/punk three piece from Shepton Mallet, who have recently been focusing on recording and songwriting after a very busy two years of hard gigging. The band are looking forward to playing more and more gigs and really excited to reveal some new songs that they have been working on.

1600-1645 Any Other Day
Any Other Day are an Alt-Rock blend of punchy guitar, catchy female vocals and driving basslines. With a passion to bring a fresh face to rock music and an ever-energetic performance they promise to get you on your feet.

1500-1545 Apherium
After re-shaping their set in 2013, Apherium began to spread their wings racking up a series of successful shows in London, Midlands, South Wales and throughout the South West. The band then bunkered down in preparation for their new EP, entitled ‘Neoteric’, released on 22nd September 2014 which is rammed with sonic sledgehammer fists- in-the-air choruses and explosive rhythms that promise to melt your ears

The Thatchers are a high energetic acoustic trio based in the heart of the county of Somerset, formed in 2013.
Highly influenced by the Southern americana folk scene The Thatchers blend a heavier side of the genre with their signatured, well balanced three part harmonies, and have been quoted by many as a ' festival favourites' due to their on stage charisma. With their very well recieved debut album 'Whiskey Tales' released in 2015 alongside a very ambitious UK tour, which saw them play alongside some legendary acts, it is very clear that this band are set on making themselves heard.

John D Revelator The best goddamn band in West Bradley, kings & queens of West Country swamp folk, John D Revelator are pleased & proud to return to the crucible of Glastonbury's music scene to perform at the Hawthorns stage. Cheeky, toe tapping tunes of love, loss, politics, football, drug abuse & ditches are delivered by the gig hardened 5 piece of John, Ann, Smudge, G & Paul. About Glastonbury, by Glastonbury & for Glastonbury. If Glastonbury is calling then it sounds a lot like John D Revelator!

1745-1830 Sam Evans Trio
Sam Evans Band The band never perform without impressing and often astonishing listeners. A rare blend of musical integrity and a real performing presence - pure enjoyment on both sides of the stage!
Listing musicians Bob Marley and Xavier Rudd amongst their influences, Sam Evans and his band deliver a blended fusion of soul, funk, blues and reggae. The band have been touring and recording for over a year, and give a one-off sound that gets the crowd on their feet. Sam, who hails from Bristol and only 20, is widely recognised as a rising star in the UK, having performed 100’s gigs over the past few years at mainstream venues, such as The 100 Club, London; hitting the festival circuit, as well as touring Ireland and Romania.
The success of the 2015 festival performances has been rewarded with advance bookings for the 2016 festival season and a 4th tour of Ireland in July/August 2016 has already been booked. Sam and the boys were recently featured on 'BBC Introducing' in the West, a milestone for them, to play tracks from their 2015 EP “A Change is on its Way”, Sam’s 5th EP will be released in Summer 2016.

Billy Shinbone is a folk & blues & rock & roll artist. He writes & sings & plays guitar & banjo mainly, but also plays mandolin, lap steel, dobro, harmonica & a little accordion....  He likes old music like hillbilly boogie, blues & folk, bluegrass, rock 'n' roll & can't resist a little 60s psychedelia. His style is a kind of hybrid of Doc Watson, Bo Diddley & the Kinks. As well his solo work he plays with other bands & artists, notably Flipron, Nick Parker & the False Alarms & until recently, the Neville Staple Band.

Madame Twisted
After taking a short break Madame Twisted bounced back in 2012 with a brand new Minimal style, a sound that she is renowned for today . Since then, Madame Twisted's talent has been recognized by established and well respected promoters & has gained sets & new residencies at the hottest club nights up & down the UK.
Madame was a finalist in the All Girls On Decks DJ comp Judged by Lisa Lashes in January 2015 eventually finishing runner up & playing at Cafe de Paris in London alongside the winner & her idol Lisa lashes.
Madame is now resident DJ for Decadance & has launched her own brand 'Release' In Cardiff.

C:Dub
C.DuB has played at parties and events supporting Nicky Blackmarket, GUV, Levela, Interface, Skanky Sounds, Frantic, Suspect Militia & The Audio Dubz.. The list is constantly growing! With fresh, filthy beats and clever techniques.. C.DuB is definately one to watch out for!

Lisa Mae
Since the very beginning Lisa Mae's sets have showcased a wide variety of dance music whether it be old or new, obscure or well known. Her uplifting energy, passion and unique feel for taking her listeners on a musical journey has given her openings to captivate crowds in the Southwest UK, London, Barcelona, Europe and hold residency at the opening of Atlantis in Dubai.

Kane Greenhalgh
By fourteen Kane was releasing weekly mixes & local radio station podcasts. After feeling comfortable mixing he began to introduce himself to producing his own music on Ableton & FL Studio.
This soon led to Kane releasing his debut track 'Believe' not only on iTunes but on his own self made record label 'Project House Records'. He made this label to not only release his own music on but to help many local DJs & Producers into releasing their own music.

First became a DJ in 1982, played in many clubs and bars throughout the UK, from private parties for the rich and famous to clubs in Southampton & Brighton such as The Honey Club, The Event & Revenge, playing “House, Trance & Techno”.
