A night of high octane soul powered rock and gypsy fuelled folk swing. They haven't played in town for over a year!!
Electric Fox are a 4-piece from Glastonbury/Bristol, stepping out and burning bright, Electric Fox are a rock band with fierce tunes and a whole lot of soul.
With their hearts worn proudly, these young men invoke an irresistible and vital world of hope, rising through feral and keen melody and rhythm that drives on a knife edge.
From moments of brooding tenderness the music ascends and writhes in an explosion of electric guitar, howling and twisting to uncompromising beats, so full to the brim with movement and feeling that it spills out into the audience, leaving them bouncing off the walls, their feet and hearts pounding.
Lyrical loving infused with a sense of humanity reverberates with a passion and sincerity that looks you in the eye. This is a band that sing their truth. And as the music takes on a life force of its own, Electric Fox want just one thing: to capture your heart and take you for the ride.

Sunday 31st December

Best of Bristol: New Years Eve 2017- Hy-Brasil Music Club- Bristol
Some of the best of Bristol together for one hell of party this New Years Eve at Hy-Brasil Music Club! Each company involved have brought forward their favourite artist that will perform at the event - expect live music, DJs, one hell of an MC, prizes and more throughout the evening.
Elder Island (DJ Set) After a stonking debut at Lost Village Festival this summer, Elder Island bring their DJ set to Bristol for the first time. Join them for a boogie to some of the music that they love, alongside some dancefloor reworks from other major artists; plus a rare opportunity to hear some exclusive DJ edits of their own work.

The Gnarwhals Bristol's party starters return! Formed in San Diego in '79 this loveable skate-rock power trio has stormed the billboard chart time and time again with albums "Till Death Do Us Party", "The Robot House (Is Mega Sweet For Mega Party Boarding)" and more recently "Fuck Cameron".

Harvey Causon Calm and understated, Bristol’s Harvey Causon is not looking to blow you away with a wall of sound. You’ll be blown away instead by his soft, glitching electronica, deft take on contemporary R&B, and reeled by his rich vocals, that sound far more world wearied than his 19 years.
With nods to other contemporary producers Jamie Isaac and James Blake, Harvey’s sound is pop at heart; but his clever, minimal production, rich, heart stopping vocal and dulcet guitar tones set him apart.

No Violet Bristol-based 4 piece, No Violet, powerfully retain your attention with their enthralling performances of their idiosyncratic blend of fuzz-infused grunge/alt rock and semi-contorted math rock. Ellie (vox), Pete (drums), Rhys (guitar), and Kerry (bass) captivate their audience through a manipulating dynamic range that echoes early Pixies with an added split personality disorder. Having just released their 2nd single, ‘America’ in October 2017, they have featured regularly on BBC Intro radioplay and are moving into and even fuzzier 2018 with the release of their debut EP.

Rozelle bridge the gap between experimental electronic music and chart pop.
The group was brought together by songwriter and front woman Hayley Smith, who began writing short stories and poetry throughout her childhood. Fascinated by evolution, art and social complexity, her writing style speaks about life’s curiosities and what she sees.
Their live shows take you on a memorable journey, leading you through dreamy soundscapes with punchy upbeat dance rhythms. Rozelle create a sound that you can’t quite put your finger on.
They bring back a 90’s nostalgia, with a mix of electro sound bites and gritty guitars, but deliver an air of Wolf Alice with hints of Florence and the Machine, bringing a current yet entrancing vibe, which sits perfectly on festival stages

Wavey Wish UK Rapper from Bristol who grew up in the cultural and creative streets of st pauls. This has inspired Wish to carefully perfect his craft to become the poet/wordsmith he is today. Expect broad vocabulary of real rap from the Official Recordings artist

YOUTH are a four-piece alternative/rock band based in Bristol. Starting in 2013, they have slowly made a name for themselves within the local music scene and surrounding areas.
They gather influences from various different genres of music and have frequently met with people unable to quite put a finger on their sound.
Mixing intricate and emotive beauty with overdriven, reverb drenched noise, backed up by punchy and attacking drum sections.

New Year's Eve Party with The Leylines Winter Gardens Pavilion, Weston-super-Mare
The Leylines West-country collective established in 2013, with a genre-defying, eclectic sound that ranges from traditional folk to full blown festival rock. The Leylines are: Dan Thompson (electric guitar); Dave Burbidge (drums); Hannah Johns (violin); Matthew Wilkins (acoustic guitar); Sean Booth (bass); and Steve Mitchell (vocals/guitar).
The Leylines was founded by a group of musicians in Weston-super-Mare (via Bristol), wishing to combine their individual musical styles into something that isn’t quite folk, sort of punk, 100% heart-pounding revelry. This unique sound, combined with frontman Steve Mitchell’s lyrics centred around life on the road and the state of society, has launched the band into the heart of the live music community and made them firm favourites of the festival circuit.
The band released their debut album, ‘Along The Old Straight Track’ in June 2016, produced by Sean Lakeman, recorded at The Metway studios in Brighton and mixed by Al Scott. With this team on board, inevitably the record has drawn strong comparison to the likes of The Levellers, Mad Dog Mcrea and Ferocious Dog, whilst remaining an album by a band which have forged their own sound and identity.
With a fiercely loyal and ever-growing fan base, The Leylines guarantee to have their audiences up on their feet – and they will be having as much fun as their audience while they’re doing it!

Gig of the week

Friday 15th December

The Bocabash 2017
Becoming increasingly popular, The Bocabash is an occasional gig put on by Street-based singer/songwriter Nick Parker in which he invites friends from around the world to come and play in the middle of Somerset. Here is a little about this year's acts.

Nick Parker and the False Alarms

Sometimes folky, sometimes rocky, sometimes country-y, Street-based Nick Parker and his actually quite ruly cohorts The False Alarms never take themselves too seriously. With their tongues seldom far from their cheeks they romp around the stage with guitars, fiddle, mandolin, bass, drums and loads of vocals providing a beautifully shabby backdrop for Nick's astutely written songs. With strong melodies and hooks throughout, the songs are laden with clever lyrics which are as easy-to-relate-to as they are quirky. Over the last couple of years Nick - with or without the band - has played at festivals such as Chagstock, Farmer Phil's, 2000Trees, Glastonbury and Lakefest as well as many smaller festivals and spends nearly all his time touring around Europe where he is on the German record label Tonetoaster.
"Lovely westcountry melody-and-energy-laced rockin' folkish stuff with a sense of humour and a hotline to your heart." - Bath Fringe

The Mosquitoes

Originally rubber farmers, The Mosquitoes hit upon hard times during the great rubber famine of 1971 and were forced to turn to petty crime. They first met while serving time in Bogota penitentiary. During their stint behind bars, they were encouraged to attend music therapy workshops as an outlet for their aggression. All learnt to play an instrument apart from frontman Raul who was ejected from the rehabilitation exercise, in part due to a remarkable lack of timing and co-ordination, and also because he is tone deaf. Not only did they excel at music, they were talented sportsmen and were all picked for the prison football team. While playing for the side in an international tournament at the Bernabau in Madrid the team escaped through the changing room toilet window at half-time. Chico, Pedro, Raul, Jose and Torremolinos ran like the wind and kept on running until they took up political asylum in the far south west of Cornwall. Today, still wanted by the government from their home country they survive as musicians of fortune.

Lonely Tourist (full band)

Bristol based Scot, Lonely Tourist plays 'pub-step' at the speed of a greyhound out the traps. Since 2011 he has released 3 albums (the fourth is due early 2018). His music has been played on the radio a fair bit too. Steve Lamacq had him in for a session on 6music in 2016. Gideon Coe, Tom Robinson, Cerys Matthews and Intro West have all played it as well as Janice Forsyth on BBC Scotland who made 2017 single Luxury Coach single of the week on her show. The Bocabar set will be Lonely Tourist's first full band gig since 2014

B-Sydes

B-SYDES (AKA Ben Sydes) became a solo singer-songwriter after becoming disillusioned with the unpredictability of playing in band after band. He decided to strike out on his own in 2009 and is yet to look back. His first EP 'Handshakes Turn to Headlocks' (2010) proved to be a sampler of what he was capable of. It was said to have ‘Perfectly showcased his ultra stripped down folk ditties’ by the organisers of 2000 Trees Festival. This was followed up shortly after with his 2nd EP ‘Wrecked Vessels’ (2011), a release that showed all the progression you would expect from an artist growing both in confidence and stature. ‘Punktastic’ - “Nobody can deny the passion that Benjamin has thrown into these songs”. ‘Big Cheese Magazine’ - “Sydes folk-rooted songs deliver raw emotions with passion and conviction”.
B-SYDES has been lucky enough to have shared stages with the likes of Frank Turner, Sam Duckworth, Chris T-T, Dave McPherson, Walter Schreifels, Ben Marwood, Jim Lockey and the Solemn Sun, Oxygen Thief, Rob Lynch, Gaz Brookfield and The Retrospective Soundtrack Players to name a few.

As well as all the live music, Bonbambino will be DJing into the small hours.
Tickets are £5 in advance from rbb.events/bocabash
