her sound is a hybrid of old and new.
It holds traces of her influences encompassing the early soul sounds of Billie Holiday and Etta, as well as more recent obsessions like Submotion Orchestra, Jamie Woon, and Nikka Costa.

Martin Harley & Daniel Kimbro - Strode Theatre, Street
On the heels of the largely sold out 'Static in the Wires' tour, this dynamic transatlantic duo take to the road again for their 'Feet don't fail me' tour. Always engaging and far from predictable these 'Two musicians at the top of their game' (Music Riot) seek to push the boundaries of blues, folk and American roots music. Original compositions on Slide guitar, double bass, harmony vocals and good humoured banter are cornerstones of their live shows. Between them they are very much on the world stage and have performed at Glastonbury, The Royal Albert hall, the Ryman Auditorium, Grand Ole Opry, Bonnaroo, Telluride Bluegrass Festival, MerleFest, Bottle Rock,The Edmonton Folk Festival, New Orleans Jazz Fest, The Blue Note Tokyo, Cognac Blues festival, Cayamo and many more. Most recently Daniel toured the US with the Transatlantic Sessions.

The two musicians met through a mutual friend Sam Lewis at Hippie Jack's music festival in Crawford Tennessee. After a brief backstage rehearsal, they took to the stage for an hour of largely improvised music. A few weeks later they were cutting a record at Zac Brown’s iconic Southern Ground. Martin plays a 100 year Weissenborn (Hawaiian acoustic lap guitar), Daniel plucks beats, scratches and bows his upright bass to create and unexpected array of sounds.

Glastonbury Gig Guide W/C 15th February 2018

Welcome to the gig guide magazine for Glastonbury. Glastonbury Calling is on next week and we have some lovely events on this week in town on a quieter weekend.  Tickets for the Fringe Launch also go on sale on 1st March and the event is beginning to look exciting already.

Gig of the week

Thursday 15th February

Glastonbury Grow Room 007 Square One- King Arthur
Featuring Somerset country rockers Square One as part of their UK tour, this show promises to get you up on your feet, slapping your thighs and singing along to anthemic ear worms like “Let’s Go” and their latest release “Feels Like Home”.  It’s the first time in Glastonbury for a while.
Country inspired Southern Rock born in the Southwest of England. Square One have forged their sound and merged their influences to create huge stompin' riffs and songs you can't help but sing. Driven and inspired by artists like Luke Bryan, Jason Aldean and Blake Shelton, they aim to bring an all American party to this side of the pond.
To date the band have hit some big milestones including appearances at Country 2 Country Festival, numerous music videos and the release of their debut album Southern Summer. 2018 will see in their first U.K tour, plenty of summer festivals and loads of brand new music.

Gavin Osborn & Nick Parker- Hawthorns Hotel
Gavin Osborn, on his very early Spring Tour, accompanied by local music legend, Nick Parker as Support, that means he must be good if Nick wants to find him a Bonus Thursday night gig, and support him too.....

Gavin tours the country and continent in search of musical adventures, recorded several albums with Banquet Records, has a unique style with songs that reflect his political/social observations with a degree of humour and irreverence...and of course there is Nick too,

Friday 16th February

B.E.Cooling- Hawthorns Hotel
Picking up the guitar when he was 15, living in Canada just outside of Toronto. Listening to the likes of The Beatles, The Doors and Neil Young. B Cooling started his musical career by busking, which is quite clear from his wide range of old and new cover material. But I felt his buskin past was also noticeable in his guitar playing, at times it was a little too heavy and thrashy for the songs he was playing. That said his vocals were harmonious and he clearly loved doing what he does.

B.E Cooling played a few originals and these are what caught my attention. My personal favourites being ’It Don’t Matter’ and ‘Don’t Give Up’. While they told us the story of his life and gave us an insight to where he’s from, they also gave us food for thought. With Dylan esque spoken verses and beautifully sung choruses over a country sounding guitar, with clever finger picking interludes. Somehow it all came together and created something I would very happily listen to on my playlist.

Saturday 17th February

Kindred- King William Inn
KINDRED return to play a great set of Rock and Pop covers at King William in Glastonbury

Urban Culture Presents: LIVE Generation VOL 3! JENNA & the G'S!- Bocabar

New Song

Nicholson Heal - Sullen Comfort
The nights are still cold but the warm folk melodies of Nicholson Heal is certainly fitting for these wintery evenings by the house fire. Song ‘Sullen Comfort’ is as glittering as it is charming while tender strings and heartfelt words all make it worth while.

Valis Ablaze, Pretty Little Enemy, Lady Janes Revenge & Mooneater- Cobblestones- Bridgwater
Valis Ablaze Establishing their reputation for chunky, modern riffing combined with emotive atmospherics, Valis Ablaze have flirted around the edges of the thriving UK tech/prog scene since early 2014.
The band have played over 100 shows, sharing the stage with almost all of their more current influences and peers.  The band have worked with renowned film maker Ben Herbert (New Era, Arnold Schwarzenegger) and music video mastermind, Scott Canty. In January 2017, the band released ‘Insularity’ – a much sleeker, shinier, song-focused proposition produced by Metal Hammer Golden God Winner, Drewsif Stalin.
With 140,000 Spotify Streams in under a year, and 40,000 YouTube plays in the last 18 months, the band feel they are definitely on to something with their unique blend of heavy, melody and technicality. Following the positive reception of Insularity, the band continued to support larger bands within the genre, cementing themselves as the heavier alternative to your favourite clean vocalled, modern, prog metal bands.
Valis Ablaze have played shows or toured with Tesseract, Monuments, The Contortionist, Uneven Structure, Dead Letter Circus, Vola, Disperse and more (not including festivals), just since their new direction made public in June 2016
