Gig of the week

Thursday 11th January

A new concept which launched last week and we are 100% behind helping new music.
Glastonbury Grow Room - Steve Henderson, Steven Draper aka KRAZY - The King Arthur

Glastonbury Grow Room: Where Artists Blossom.
Live from The King Arthur every Thursday. A new and exciting idea from the venue which includes a professional live stream and recording for the artists.

Steve Henderson plays a stripped back, mostly guitar and voice exploration of themes around longing, separation, insomnia, love and belonging. The lyrics weave stories within stories as each song introduces you to characters playing out situations we found ourselves in each day, from a first date to that person that makes a night come alive out of nowhere.

Steven Draper aka KRAZY Rapper from Wordlife.

Fly Yeti Fly- Hundred Monkeys
Fly Yeti Fly are the acoustic duo Lorna Somerville and Darren Fisher. Blending sensitive vocal harmonies with intricate guitar arrangements, mandolin and harmonica, the duo weave songs and stories from their travels together, with a sound that is reminiscent of the late-’60s folk scene. Their debut album ‘Shine a Light in the Dark’, released March 2017, has since received critical acclaim. Having appeared on BBC Introducing stages across the south west and keen artists on the festival circuit, this pair are often accompanied by the exceptional artists Jo Hooper (Mudskippers) on cello.

The Eldar/ Jenjen -The King Arthur

The Eldar Glastonbury's own 'Psychedelic Indie Rock' Band! Playing their own original material, THE ELDAR☆ are a magical dynamic blend of male and female vocals with deep
'out there' lyrics, powerful musing guitar licks, deep funky bass and cool drum beats; with an interesting river of sound. This gig is not to be missed!

Ocean Sunset View-Record Low-Banana High-Sinful Maggie- The Hawthorns Hotel
Ocean Sunset View are a 3 piece Pop Punk/Punk Rock band from the South West UK. These boys are becoming known for anthemic and often fast punk, as well as being a bit cheeky and writing the odd song about masturbation. Record Low are a 6 piece band from South West England. Bringing back old school pop punk sound with songs that everyone can relate to. Although the songs are serious, don't let that fool you, they love to have fun!

Both their EPs “I’m Not Fading Away” And “Kind Words of Advice” are available on band camp, and their next ep “Pictures For The World To See” is coming soon!

With varying styles of ska, reggae and punk, Banana High play a mixture of covers and originals with their own twist! Their Debut EP 'Rhythm of your soul is available for free via their bandcamp

~~SINFUL MAGGIE~~
https://www.facebook.com/sinfulmaggie/

SINFUL MAGGIE formed in 2014 and set out to show people you can have a punk band with an accordion and not play Folk, Gypsy or Celtic Punk. Based in Dorset, England they have shared bills with the likes of Buzzcocks and Slaves. Despite far too many promoters getting their name wrong, Sinful Maggie’s following has continued to grow, and with their debut self-titled album on the way they’re back out on the road bringing their intensity and high-energy punk with them.

The band makes no bones about wearing their influences on their sleeves; from The Clash and Stiff Little Fingers to Dead Kennedys, The Distillers and NOFX, but they aim to bring something different to the table. Although they do not currently have a CD, they are a common addition to local festival line ups, for good reason!

Recommended out of town

Friday 12th January

Lords of Thyme / Billy Shinbone- Salt Café- Bristol
Lords of Thyme No one can tell you what traditional English music is without tying themselves in handkerchief knots, but you know it when you hear it. The Lords Of Thyme are traditionally English in the same way that Pentangle or Fotheringay were traditionally English, but also in the same way that Julian Cope undoubtedly is. A hazy, blissed out, ancient and modern country of the strangest imaginations.

The Billy Shinbone Show is the deviant folk-pop-skiffle manglings & disco-punk-rock-blues of Somerset multi-instrumentalist Billy Shinbone, -funneling his twin passions of old country & 60s psychedelia through the rusty plumbing of a DIY musical approach & his love of a twisty lyric.
