Gig of the week
Saturday 20th January
Neville Staple and Flipron Gig for Mind-The BocabarA fantastic gig to raise money for the MIND mental health charity, it’s sold out so to allthose going have a fantastic time.
Neville Staple, also known as The Original Rudeboy, is credited with changing the face of pop music not only once but twice.
Neville Staple’s thirty-five year career in the music business is well documented, from the early days with The Coventry Automatics, The Specials & FunBoy3 in the late ‘70s and ‘80s, to The Special Beat and various other collaborations during his solo career from the ‘90s up to the present day.
Following on from the 2009 Specials reunion and Neville’s departure from the band in late 2012, he continues to be a forerunner of the ska movement, and continues to thrill audiences with his own excellent band, The Neville Staple Band, at venue and festival appearances worldwide.
“It isn't hard to work out why The Specials lack energy on stage, it's because Neville Staple took it with him” - Steve Oliver - Nottingham Post
Neville’s autobiography, THE ORIGINAL RUDE BOY, was published by Aurum Press in the UK in May 2009. It is an amazing story that tells of Neville’s interest in music in the early ‘60s, his relationship with Pete Waterman (record producer, songwriter, radio and club DJ and television presenter) who he met at a club in Coventry and his rise out of hell into stardom.
Neville’s latest album with his band ‘Ska Crazy’ was released in May 2014, ahead of an extensive tour, which includes new material and some old ska classic covers. The album also features guest vocals from his wife Christine Staple and long time friend, DJ and Artist, Daddy Woody.
2015 was a very exciting year for Neville with relentless touring up and down the UK and playing many festivals including a headline slot on the Avalon Stage at Glastonbury Festival.
Neville has a way with people, he cares about his audience and wants to give them a good time. In return, the crowd are word perfect on every song and each event turns into a party.
“Nothing came close to the sensational Neville Staple Band who really got the party started and had the masses dancing along” - Anita Merritt - Exeter Express & Echo
Neville has also worked on various collaborations over the years, including with The Talks, Flipron, Duplex, co-writing 4 tracks on The Mutants album ‘Rhythm and Punk Review’, tracks with The Dub Pistols and there are many more collaborations in the works.
Flipron are an English psychedelic pop band from Glastonbury, England, consisting of singer and songwriter Jesse Budd, pianist/organist Joe Atkinson, drummer Mike Chitty and bassist Tom Granville. They were signed to Tiny Dog Records in 2003.Their music has been likened to Tom Waits, Syd Barrett and The Kinks.

Siblings Of Us 8.50pm A band of the New Wave generation since 2016/2017. 'Siblings' have been praised for their high energy live shows as well as consistent releases, including their debut E.P 'Fear Me / Love Me; second E.P 'Who Are We Anymore' and single 'I'm Re***ded' self produced within a year.
The two members Adam 'Fonzy' Armour (Vocals, Guitar, Synth, percussion) and Zack Reed (Vocals, Synth, producer) have continued to surprise multiple audiences all over the world with a unique brand of Alternative SynthWave. Despite many set backs and a lack of understanding for the duo, they have pushed through with success with the sole purpose to prove to the many that have doubted them that there is a decent place in the industry for them.
Already the band are recognised in the scene as something unique with a bridge to the current trend just on the horizon within their music and different take on a generic show.
Beefywink 8pm Fusing elements from classic '77 British punk and dark 90's grunge, Beefywink pack a punch with their highpowered riffs and irate lyrics. Lead by Daisy Daze, the band have an electric connection onstage and in their music, and an infectious passion for what they do. For fans of Together Pangea, Cherry Glazerr and VANT, Beefywink's lyrics embody the gritty mindset found in so many young people in this day and age. Making their debut performance at The Nest, Bath in June they began making an explosive impression on the Bath/Bristol scene in the months that followed.
Following in the footsteps of Ray Manzareck (The Doors) Annie Fields supplies an extensive collection of synthesisers whilst lead guitarist Karl Rushby performs with a raw and laid back guitar style, all kept in time by powerhouse Jake Oxford on Drums.
